Writer’s Blog Project
The Writer’s Blog Project is worth 15 percent of your grade and consists of five small assignments that are spread throughout the ten weeks of the quarter. You are required to respond to all five prompts in your own blog space, which we will create in class during Day 3. These prompts will lean toward analytical reading response but will also incorporate personal narrative, media analysis outside of course readings, and process analysis. These assignments will provide you with the unique opportunity to write for an audience of your peers (somewhat similar to writing for Commonplace). Then, as the audience of your peers, you will post comments on your peers’ blogs--class discussion time will occasionally be allotted for this purpose. For each entry, you will ideally compose AT LEAST the equivalent of two to three good-sized paragraphs.
GUIDELINES FOR COMMENTING ON YOUR PEERS’ BLOG ENTRIES
1. For each entry you write, you should leave AT LEAST two comments on the entries of your peers. Try to comment on entries that haven’t received any/many comments.
2. Be respectful. No flaming, trolling, or mean-spirited comments.
3. Also, leave something more substantial than “0mg ur so right” or “I agree with everything you said.” While your comments don’t have to be “long,” they should thoughtfully and respectfully engage the writer’s original post.
4. Remember to focus on content and not conventions. This is not a place where we will correct each other’s spelling or grammar but a forum to share and exchange ideas.
5. In order to receive credit for your comments, you must leave them before class unless I choose to allot class time for this exercise (you’ll be informed ahead of time). Taking the time to read and reflect on what your classmates have written will also prepare you more thoroughly for class discussion.
THANKS!
